Our Programs

We love all our neighbors! We show that love through our 3 programs, which each focuses on a specific neighbor groups.

Summer Lunch Program
Neighbors: Food insecure children

Serving nearly 1550 meals to children and families in Pamlico County in 2023, our summer lunch program is Love Thy Neighbor's flagship project.

52% of students in the Pamlico County school system qualify for reduced or free lunch, meaning more than half of students run the risk of missing lunches during the summer. We believe that out of school should not mean out of food. Prepared, delivered, and distributed by a team of organizational and individual partners, our summer lunch program focuses on our neighbors who are food insecure children.

Jamal Jones Motorcycle Memory Ride for Sickle Cell Awareness
Neighbors: Families battling Sickle Cell Disease

It is estimated that over 90,000 people in North Carolina have the sickle cell or related traits.

Each fall we host a motorcycle ride commemorating the life and memory of Jamal Jones, a sickle cell "warrior" who inspired our dedicated support for our neighbors battling sickle cell disease.

This year the Motorcycle Memory Ride will be Saturday September 21, 2024 at Pamlico Community College (5059 NC 306 Grantsboro, NC). Registration begins at 9AM, Kickstands up at 10:30AM. Registration fee is $30 per bike and includes lunch.

Random Acts of Kindness
Neighbors: Our neighbors in need

Roughly 15.5% of people live in poverty in Pamlico County, higher than both state and national poverty levels, according to most reports.

Each year we make financial gifts to local nonprofits that are serving our neediest neighbors, like Sound of Salvation Ministries, Bayboro Development Center, families battling sickle cell disease, local churches and other organizations.
